Pixie and I have become virtual friends, and her work is not only inspiring, but beautiful. She created the most beautiful watercolor painting for my nephew. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Glamour and The New York Times. You might even own a Pixie Yates original, as her items have been sold around the world, i.e. Bergdorf Goodman. In-between projects she found time to answer a few questions.

Favorite Icon: There are so many females I love, Dolly, Audrey, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, I could go on-and-on but right now I’m really into Elizabeth Taylor – smart, business savvy, beauty, talented, generous, humanitarian, vulnerable, and brave. Can’t forget her love of diamonds.

Last Item purchased before the pandemic: A dress from my favorite shop in the East Village called ANNA , and I had just re-ordered all my skincare products from Mariana Chichet.  based in LA which lasted a bit until she reopened. I lived in LA early in my fashion career and I met Mariana who makes amazing pure clean products and I have been using them ever since.

If you could live in any piece of clothing what would it be: Cashmere leggings and silk cami or vintage slip, which I wear all of the time.

Favorite Restaurant:  Il Buco– amazing ingredients, simple, farm to table and I had my wedding rehearsal dinner there in the wine cellar. I used to meet music industry clients there.

Last book read: I have 2 books, 9th Street women and finishing up Dolly by Dolly Parton My life and other unfinished Business.

Inspiration: I find it everywhere from nature, color, cute shops, and towns, vintage fabrics, seed catalogs on and on, beach, sea, flowers. I’m really into making custom hostess gifts which are kind-of old school.

I have clients ordering custom cocktail watercolors to give party hosts, which they love, another ordered a custom hydrangea floral watercolor to give to a host who has everything, she didn’t want to give the usual tea towel, etc., the recipient loved it so much, home portraits to the hosts are also being ordered.  Now that we are gathering, people want something more personal and one of a kind gifts.
